The Hutchinson Community Foundation has informed us that their preliminary count revealed that the Kansas Underground Salt Museum raised $8,395.00 for our endowment on Match Day!!!

Our 62 donors leveraged $1,597.50 of the matching pool. The leveraged match was dependent on the number and amount of gifts we received before the match ran out.

We want to thank everyone who took the time, made the effort, and chose to financially support our endowment fund on this very special day! If we did not personally greet you at the door on Wednesday, we hope to be able to personally thank you in the future. We are richly blessed with passionate supporters.

When you get off the hoist underground, you'll be in what is called, "The Narrows." The corridor was a solid chunk of salt blasted open for the museum. Be sure and check out the miners names written on the wall from the day they blasted.

During its first years of operation, Carey Salt Company offered tours, especially to school children. They stopped offering tours in the 1960s, and there was no public access to the salt mines until KUSM opened six years ago.
