Group Bookings and Reservations
A special discounted rate is available for organized groups of 28 or more and K-12 school groups. To qualify, arrangements need to be made at least one week in advance.
 
Please call us Tuesday-Friday between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm to check availability or make reservations. Sorry, but reservations cannot be made via email or online because we want to personally visit with you and be assured of having complete, accurate information in order to guarantee your tour time.

During its first years of operation, Carey Salt Company offered tours, especially to school children. They stopped offering tours in the 1960s, and there was no public access to the salt mines until KUSM opened six years ago.

The Atomic Energy Commission (AEC) came to Hutchinson in 1958 to perform tests to see if the mine was a suitable place to dispose of materials. They tested for about ten years but decided it wasn't the right spot.
